LENT · 2024

Ash Wednesday Service

An Ash Wednesday meditation on confession and repentance as Lenten spiritual practices. Drawing on Psalm 51, this sermon invites us to name our “specific everything” before the God of mercy and grace.

ROMANS 8:12–17

Children of the Spirit

A sermon on identity and belonging in God’s family, preached to a multicultural church navigating cultural divisions. Paul’s call to live by the Spirit challenges us to base relationships on adoption into God’s family, not cultural conformity.

ACTS 20 · SUNRISE SERVICE

Embodied Eulogy

A farewell sermon challenging graduates to live as the embodiment of their own eulogy — the people they want to be remembered for being. Drawing on Paul’s address to the Ephesian elders, it calls us to live for God and work with integrity.

MARK 6:30–44

Meeting God in the Wilderness

A sermon on rest, trust, and the feeding of the five thousand, contrasting Herod’s feast of power with Jesus’ feast of compassion. It calls followers of Jesus to value renewal and trust God who works miracles even with very little.

HEBREWS 2:14–18

Help in Temptation and Suffering

A sermon tracing humanity’s royal-priestly calling from Genesis through to Jesus, who became fully human to face suffering and death on our behalf. Because Jesus was tempted and suffered, he is uniquely able to help those who suffer and are tempted today.

GALATIANS 4:19 · ACC 2024

Liminality and Transformation

A reflection on liminal spaces — the “in-between” moments of transition — as places of deep transformation. Using Paul’s birth metaphor in Galatians, it invites us to embrace uncertainty so that Christ may be fully formed in us.

MATTHEW 6:9–10

Longing for the Kingdom

An exposition of the Lord’s Prayer at the centre of the Sermon on the Mount, exploring what it means to pray for God’s name to be honoured and his kingdom to come on earth. The sermon shapes us into people who protest the injustice of the world’s kingdoms by longing for God’s.

NEHEMIAH 8:1–10

The Joy of the Lord and Holiness

A New Year sermon on covenant renewal from Nehemiah 8, tracing Israel’s return from exile and their recommitment to God’s word. It challenges us to move from weeping over our failures to celebrating God’s faithfulness — because the joy of the Lord is our strength.

MARK 15:22–41

The King on His Throne

A crucifixion sermon showing how Jesus’ mockers unknowingly proclaimed the very truth they tried to deny — that Jesus is the King of Israel. The cross is not a contradiction of Jesus’ kingship but its ultimate confirmation.

MARK 16:1–8

The Testimony of the Untrustworthy

A resurrection sermon honouring the faithful women who stayed with Jesus when his inner circle fled, and Joseph of Arimathea who risked everything to give him a dignified burial. Their courage models what it means to follow Jesus in dangerous and costly conditions.

MARK 1:1–8

Unexpected Fulfilment

An opening sermon on Mark 1, showing how God fulfilled Israel’s deepest hopes in Jesus — but in ways no one expected. It invites us to hold our expectations of God loosely, remaining open to his surprising ways of bringing justice, wholeness, and flourishing.

ISAIAH 55:6–7 · JEREMIAH 29:13 · MATSAPHA COC

Seek God

A Gospel Meeting sermon challenging the church to move beyond religious routine to seek God with their whole hearts. Drawing on Isaiah and Jeremiah, it calls us to repentance, reminding us that forgiveness and salvation have always been God’s gift, not our achievement.
